#OTD in 1554, shortly after the execution of her husband #GuildfordDudley on nearby #TowerHill, #LadyJaneGrey was taken to a scaffold which had been erected on Tower Green, within the complex of the #TowerofLondon, where she was executed by beheading. #Tudors

On This Day (22 Jan) in 1552, former Lord Protector Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset was beheaded on Tower Hill.
He was found guilty of high treason, accused of conspiring to kill his old friend and ally John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, now leader of the Regency Council as 'Lord President'.

#OTD in 1601, Henry Herbert, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, died at his home, Wilton House, nr Salisbury.
Along with his third wife, #MarySidney, they were patrons of the arts and literature; this was continued by their sons William and Philip, to whom #WilliamShakespeare's First Folio is dedicated.

#OTD in 1549, #ThomasSeymour was arrested on charges of treason, and taken to the #TowerofLondon; the previous evening, an increasingly erratic and impulsive Seymour had shot and killed one of #EdwardVI's dogs outside the king's bedroom at #HamptonCourtPalace. #Tudors #History

On This Day (14 Jan) in 1559 Elizabeth I left the Tower of London in a state procession, headed to the Palace of Westminster, in preparation for her coronation for the following day.

She made her way through the City of London, carried on a golden litter, past multiple pageants and performances.
