David we are about to see a ton of evangelicals pretend they never went along with, supported, or cheered for MAGA. I cannot tell whether that is worse than doing it to begin with.

Not to mention, early Christians wrote “He suffered under Pontius Pilate” into the creeds, not “He suffered under the Jews.” Pontius tried to wash his hands of it all and it backfired.

He was mentored by, and covered up the crimes of, Paul Pressler who was a sexual predator in the SBC. It boils down to not seeing women or children as entities with dignity and rights worth protecting. Separate but equal gender theology is working out a lot like separate but equal race theology.

Referees are also going to be targeted. I’ve seen some games so poorly officiated even I think they’re rigged and it makes me feel like it was unjust, but I don’t have thousands or more wagered on these games.

I am open to the idea that it’s just me and other folks can talk to God just fine. But for me it’s just talking to my own inner monologue. There’s no personal deity talking back like a person. So maybe it’s just me. I still need to live for something, so classical virtue is bettee than nothing.

But shouldn’t there be some consideration given to the fact that so many of the deceived are people who in good faith have been attending their churches and seeking God? Some of these MAGA guys have spent 40+ years doing church.

So if truth, virtue, honor, and living well don’t mean anything now, then why expect people to seek those things? There’s something very off about this.

I’m not bothered by the hypocrisy. I‘m bothered by the apparent lack of truth or wisdom and especially the apparent lack of power. What unique good does it do if it doesn’t do any more for humans than being raised well in another religion does?

I mean, the rain falls on the just and the unjust. There’s not a lot of daily interaction with the divine going on. God clearly sustains the natural world, but would you want to take up the soaked wood pile test against a prophet of Baal?

But you can find people like this of all sorts of ideologies and religions. There‘s nothing unique to Christianity about it.

Like prayer, for instance. God does not respond externally to prayers very often. The point of them is to be a meditation practice and change the one who is praying, not the one who is prayed to. Prayer works because meditation works, and it’s a species in the same genus.

It’s not about being hands off. It’s about shifting your perspective from hope being external to meaning being mostly internal. I can’t control anything outside of my own self, and God is extremely disinterested in most of the goings on of mortals. It’s not atheism, it’s just accepting that God
