It was a choice, but not a partisan-informed one. It was mostly an arbitrary decision. They (as an organization; individuals will differ) didn't choose based on whichever party they liked more/less.

What was I supposed to respond with? The question itself was stupid. I never claimed that voting reform would stop people from protesting in this way. He just assumed I was making a position I wasn't.

Can't please everyone

They wanted to run candidates in both major parties ridings, but due to issues of timing and logistics, they could only manage one.

There wouldn't be a protest against FPTP if there was no FPTP

I'm saying you are the one having a "tantrum", not the longest ballot.
April 25, 2025 at 2:54 PM
What's the reasoning behind you thinking this favours the Conservatives?
April 25, 2025 at 1:46 PM
That's a big "If". Is there any reasonable basis for belief that this will favour any one party over another?
April 25, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Why do people get so irrationally upset about this. It's like they don't understand it, and so assume it must be malevilent.

Doesn't Elections Canada already have supports for people with disabilities?
April 25, 2025 at 1:36 PM
Why do people say this supports any one candidate?

But you are the one publicly whinning here on Bluesky
April 25, 2025 at 1:13 PM
I'm not a part of this group, just someone sympathetic to them. Anyways, how is this going to cause someone to mess up their vote? The names are written besides the circles; the length of the ballot doesn't change that.

They had to pick one of the ridings. Would it have been peculiar if they chose Carney instead? There's no evidence of a conspiracy at all. Also, in previous elections they did this in Liberal ridings.

They intended to target both Poilievre's and Carney's riding, but lacked the time to do both. Source: www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

What the fuck are you talking about, incels? Your comment is stupid and you should delete it.

Voting reform. It's a protest against our first-past-the-post voting system.

They intented to do it in both Carney and Poilievre's riding, but due to lack of time and logistical difficulties they were only able to perform in the latter. Source: www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
Longest ballot protest targets Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's riding | CBC News
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will be facing more opponents than ever in his eighth federal campaign, thanks to dozens of protest candidates running in his riding.

Also, I'm just being a nitpicking asshole with this point, but this literally is running for office.
April 24, 2025 at 2:25 AM
I'm gonna disagree with you on this. What you call a "stunt" I call "legitimate protest". Also, it may make it annoying to look for the candidate, but it doesn't obstruct anyones ability to vote (they should already know what name to look for before they enter to cast their vote).
April 24, 2025 at 2:23 AM
I mean that is the answer though.
April 24, 2025 at 2:18 AM
This is a protest. It's meant to get attention.
April 23, 2025 at 10:55 PM
This isn't just about breaking a record. It is a protest against our flawed first-past-the-post voting system. Check out this video if you want to learn why FPTP is bad: www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tW...

These "fascists" are advocating for a more democratic voting system. If you're actually intellectually curious, I would recommend checking CGP Grey's videos on the problems of FPTP and the possible alternatives.
