Text: He Xuan stalked across the floor of his office, his black robes rippling around him like dark water as he pressed the phone to his ear and listened to the line on the other end ring.

“Answer your fucking phone, dick bag!” he hissed as the stupid thing clicked over to voicemail once more.
He Xuan raised his arm, about to hurl his cell at the wall, when he heard the sound of footsteps coming from behind him.
Spinning on his heel, he turned to glare at the new arrival, who immediately froze, staring at him with wide eyes.
“Oh,” Xie Lian said, voice soft and polite, although he was clearly startled. “Um, is everything alright?”
No, He Xuan thought. Everything is not alright.
It never was whenever that stupid, one-eyed motherfucker was involved.

That moment when young Wuming stood up to Qi Rong in "Red" has always been one of my favorites.

He's surrounded by enemies, but he never backs down, and it's just one of many things that makes the man Hua Cheng ultimately becomes so fascinating.

Text: “You damned little one-eyed snake, who the fuck do you think you are??” he roared at Wuming. “Did I piss you off while taking care of business in my own house?”
“Taking care of business?” he retorted. “Is that what you call waiting to beat up on someone until they’re sick and can’t defend themselves, you spineless dickhead?”
Qi Rong’s eyes flared, and he reared up in front of Wuming like a cobra, snatching a hold of his shirt and raising his fist.
“Fucking try it,” Wuming sneered, unfazed. “Do it. I dare you. And when Nan Shen finds out you put your hands on me again, we’ll see who he values more.”
The hands holding Wuming instantly dropped away at the sound of Nan Shen’s name, and even though Qi Rong lowered his fist at the implied threat, he kept flapping his gums as though he wasn’t just as scared as the rest of them.
“The only reason he found out last time,” he said, looming over him, “is because you squealed like a whiny crybaby, hugging his legs and begging him to—”
“Oh, somebody squealed,” Wuming drawled, cutting him off. “But it wasn’t me.”
With deliberate slowness, he canted his head to the left, his mouth twisting up in a disdainful smirk.
Qi Rong followed his gaze over to An Le, whose face drained of blood.

Text: So, he likes having his hair pulled?

Once before, Xie Lian recalled, San Lang had pulled his hair, too, and even though he hadn’t given it much thought at the time, he certainly hadn’t minded it.

Is this what a kink is?

Xie Lian wasn’t well versed in these things, but he was eager to learn what San Lang liked, and so he gathered the strands of his hair closest to the scalp and tightened his fist.

“Um . . . like this?” he ventured, giving it a pull.

But this time, Xie Lian was far more aware of what he was doing and tried to control the amount of force he was using so as not to unintentionally hurt San Lang, and, as a result, the whole thing came off as rather timid.

Laughter rumbled out of San Lang’s chest, his eye sparkling as he peered up at Xie Lian, staring at him the same way one might stare at a tiny kitten who had just done something unbearably cute.

“Harder, gege,” he teased, still laughing. “Show me what it’s like when you really mean it.”

Something about that laugh goaded him, the same way it goaded him last night when San Lang had been messing with him, and this time, when Xie Lian fisted a handful of his hair and pulled, he didn’t hold back.

Text: “I’m sure my lap makes a poor pillow. Your neck must be sore, too.”
“It was quite comfortable, actually,” Xie Lian replied, trying to absolve him of the responsibility of trying to make up for one silly little bump. “I haven’t slept that good in a while.”
“Is that right?” Wuming drawled in a deep voice that was still a little rough with the dregs of sleep. “Then, I’ll be happy to serve as gege’s pillow whenever he likes.”
Xie Lian couldn’t stop the surprised gust of breath from escaping his lips at Wuming’s bold offer, a rush of warmth spreading from his forehead to his cheeks, down to his chest.
“Hmm,” Wuming mused in a self-satisfied, cheeky voice. “Are you sure the icepack is working, gege? Your skin is quite warm all of a sudden.”
This time Xie Lian squirmed for a completely different reason. “I’m—I—it’s just a little—mmmhhh.”
Wuming’s fingers had slipped halfway down to the deep muscle of his neck and dug in, and the pressure they exerted on the sore muscle brought such an intense burst of pleasure that Xie Lian moaned.
Very loudly.
Mortified, he clapped a hand over his mouth to prevent any further sounds from coming out, but the damage was already done.
Wuming let out a smoldering laugh and leaned

Text (continued): forward, his lips ghosting along the curve of Xie Lian’s ear. “You don’t have to hold it in, gege. Say something if it hurts.”
Of course, Wuming knew very well that it didn’t hurt, because he kept on doing exactly what he was doing; his fingers exerting that wonderful pressure, working the sore muscle with such skill that Xie Lian’s head began to droop forward almost of its own accord.
Determined to save some face, Xie Lian moved the hand away from his mouth just enough to say, “It—ah.” Why did he sound so out of breath? “It doesn’t hurt.”
“No?” The tips of Wuming’s fingers skipped a little further, tugging the neckline of his oversized sweater down so he could reach the middle of his back, pressing into the lower fibers of his trapezius with exquisite force.
Xie Lian, no longer trusting his voice, simply shook his head.
All at once, Xie Lian was suddenly aware of Wuming’s powerful legs caging him in, pressing into his shoulders as he leaned impossibly closer.
He exhaled, his breath a feathery slide down the curve of his ear to the slope of his neck. The faded scent of his cologne hit the back of Xie Lian’s nostrils, making him feel dizzy.
“In that case,” Wuming’s voice dropped so low it made Xie Lian shiver involuntarily, “say something if it feels good.”

Text: “These are chestnut trees, right?” Wuming asked as if reading his thoughts. He walked next to Xie Lian, his neck slightly craned back to examine the trees.
The man was unexpectedly tall and broad at the shoulders, his clinging black t-shirt showing off his slender waist and muscular arms to great effect.
Clearly, he spent a great deal of time working on his body, unlike Xie Lian who hadn't set foot inside a gym in over a year.
“Yes, they are,” Xie Lian confirmed.
“They're pretty,” Wuming said. “Back in the city, we don't see a whole lot of green trees—well, green anything really.”
“They are pretty,” Xie Lian commented a bit absent-mindedly, “but a lot of people dislike being around them in the summertime when they flower.”
Wuming turned to regard him. “How come?
“Well, they, um.” Oh, god. Why did I just say that? “They have a rather strong, ah, smell.”
“Really?” Wuming stopped to caress one of the dark green leaves, forcing Xie Lian to stop alongside him. “What do they smell like?”
“Uh . . . they smell like . . .” Xie Lian’s fingers clenched around the small lantern as he shifted his weight from foot to foot.
Wuming turned back, not understanding Xie Lian's hesitation, and said, “Don't keep me in suspense, gege.”

Text: “They smell like—” Xie Lian choked on the last word and it came out garbled.
“Like what?” Wuming inclined his head lower to better hear.
“ . . . Semen.”
There was a moment of silence, and then Wuming burst out laughing. His laughter was deep and sultry, making Xie Lian feel as though his eardrums were being caressed with pure velvet.
“Are you serious?” he asked.
Xie Lian's face was in flames, and he desperately considered dashing his head against the nearest tree trunk.
“It's t-true,” he said lamely. “There's a volatile organic compound in the flowers that makes them smell that way. I've lived here almost all my life so I don't really notice it much anymore, but to people who are unfamiliar with them, the scent can be . . . overwhelming.”
“Ah, well,” Wuming said, sobering a little. “It will take more than that to overwhelm me.”
Xie Lian, still choking on his embarrassment, did his best not to read into the other man's remark and hurried ahead.
