My parents considered it a community service to then rent at lower prices to help the poor in the area, as long as it paid the taxes.
Only now are they selling since they are in their later years.

The only way to acquire and maintain 3 properties+ in a lifetime is to either concentrate on low income housing, like my parents did, or to have lots of steady income from other sources to be able to afford them.

Also, you have to understand that it takes capital to buy multiple places. Whether it’s a short or long term rental, it doesn’t actually make that much money unless you have more than 3-5 depending on location. You still have to pay taxes, insurance, maintenance, which takes 1/3-1/2 of the income.

That is not an issue with ownership of rental housing. That is an issue with short term rental regulation. I would never subject my rental to AirBnb or any other short term rental that would put my investment at risk.

Hmmm…are you referring to corporate landlords or everyone including single owner landlords?
Single owner landlords like myself chose to invest their money into property instead of the markets, and I rely on that money as a good portion of my income, since as a musician I do not make a lot of money.
