Just to clarify, I think the printing press helped us move past feudalism and was a net positive! But disruption is really dangerous, and unfortunately we let ourselves fall into a level of capitalism that demands it constantly.

The printing press empowered bible translation efforts, which threatened the Catholic monopoly on theological interpretation. The reformation that followed came with *many* wars and massacres. I've never thought about silicon valley's "move fast and break things" the same way again.
