No society is immune from embracing evil on a mass scale. We read about the atrocities of the past, and we ask ourselves, "how could so many act with such cruelty?" But that cruelty is always a mirror reflection away. Evil that's popular is still evil. Resistance means rejecting that popularity.
Emotion and ideology are poor substitutes for rigorous historical scholarship.

Unless your name is Ro or Kim, being an ensign on a Star Trek series is a death sentence 😄

Monday at work absolutely fried my brain. I need to shuffle tonight.

The Democratic Party is useless.

The people who loudly proclaim their morality and righteousness (especially when it comes to religion) always have skeleton-stuffed closets. The real work of goodness happens quietly, behind the scenes, done by those who do good for goodness sake, not for public glorification.

I'm a lurker on a Facebook group for my small Ohio hometown. It's a way to see what's going on in a place I've been away from for nearly 20 years. But man, there are a LOT of absolute cranks living there now, and the entire area is infected with the Trump plague. It's profoundly depressing.

I love seeing matte paintings in old films. My favourite appears at the end of "Gremlins" (1984). It's just a wonderful lost art form.

This should be on the cover of any history book about 21st century America.
incredible photo that's definitely worth at least 1,000 words from Andrew Harnik of Getty

If there were actual consumer demand for generative AI garbage, companies wouldn't have to forcibly shove AI down our collective throats by stuffing it into every possible system and application. But alas, capitalism has fully morphed into a bubble-fueled playground for tech-bro psychopaths.

Rewatching "Star Trek: TNG" and as much as I like Lt. Commander Data, making this guy third in command was nuts. He's an absolute liability who gets compromised/goes haywire seemingly every other episode.

For well over a decade now, Anna Von Hausswolff has been one of my favourite artists, transmuting the sweeping darkness of organ-drenched drones into songs of wailing beauty and despair. Her new album, "Iconoclasts" is utterly spectacular and essential.

Have you ever had a moment when you wanted to adopt your best 80s cartoon villain identity and just yell out into the void, "the fools. I will DESTROY them!!!!"

Last night, some absolute ass-hat came blaring through our residential neighborhood at 3 am in a modified-exhaust car that sounded like gunshots going off. It woke my daughter and most of the neighbors. This is why I fully support the death penalty, because some humans are simply unfit for society.
