Just want to note that Jersey city is seeing its own mini version of this with jim mcgreevey, who has a huge amount of money somehow and is running a campaign centered on everything being terrible and not, as far as I can tell, living here.

I think this is right with the slight caveat that he would have needed to work to seem normal vs work to seem not weird. Basically he has the tech/ crypto vote locked but came in with a fair amount of suspicion from normies. so less don’t say weird stuff and more focus on boring policy

Meanwhile at least in JC we have a DSA candidate for council looking pretty good on basically Mamdani's platform (yard sign index), and a mayoral candidate making videos specifically calling out AIPAC. IDK how much signal there is there though.

I know our district in Hudson Country went from +45 Biden to +21 Harris but dk how much that was non participation. Regardless, Citarelli is running a very Trumpy campaign (ads on giving 'illegal immigrants healthcare' and anti green energy). Sherill is also working hard to tie him to MAGA.

This is a good question. In my 30s and have never really lived at a time where constant contact wasn't a major part of social life. Definitely find myself closely parsing the difference between and friend and a close friend. Maybe a close friend used to be someone you'd invite to a dinner party?
