Anyone they target next can claim vindictive and selective investigation so long as they aren't also investigating Trump. This has two effects:
1) it stalls the process
2) if those other parties ARE guilty, it derails efforts to bring them to justice.

Thinking back about why Megyn Kelly got kicked off of NBC. She couldn't see what was so wrong about wearing black face, and expressed as much on live television.
She continues to struggle with the concepts of basic morality. Other people's red lines are more like pinkish zones for her.
