Just readjusted the Pride flag in my office window, which I put up after a homophobic incident on campus to get us LGBTQIA+ folks some visibility, bc its original vertical position in the center prevented me from opening my window. Added benefit: better sun screen than the built-in window shade.

First day of teaching, semester 4 at Fairfield! This semester, I've got my intro Latin and Roman lit classes, and I get to teach intro Greek for the first time since 2022 -- I'm quite excited about it. Woohoo!

I am devastated by the news that Sharon James passed away yesterday. Her invitation to me to write a paper on Ovid in the #MeToo era set me on the path that I'm on today, and her confidence in my voice, seen in the email below, has been invaluable to me as a scholar and a person. Requiescat in pace.

One quiz format in my intermediate Latin class is a reverse translation, where I feed some Latin into ChatGPT and ask students to "grade" its translation and support their grade by comparing against the Latin. This passage is from Apollo and Daphne, though, ChatGPT!
