@TheDallas. she/her. Telecoms admin. Lost in a variance of role-playing worlds, romance fic, microhistories, podcasts, paper supplies (gimme all your notebooks!), and is forever looking for her lip balm.
I started a new job this week (the federal funding cuts to public media eliminated my previous one), and it has actually pulled me out of my two-month reading slump, which I'm pretty sure was caused by grief.

60% of the way through Neon Gods by Katee Roberts. It's trashy, but sometimes, that hits!

The good thing about watching #Materialists right before bed last night was that Pedro Pascal visited me in my dreams, and he was so kind and cool. (And hot. Yes, very hot.)

Jason Mantzoukas mentioned @dropout.tv in his latest interview with The AV Club. What a nod by one of America's best improv actors!

Keep going, keep pushing, and also remember how far you've come 🩷

Ali Hazelwood came out with a new book today -DEEP END - and nobody told me?! (TW: consensual and negotiated explorations of kink.)

If I didn't love my friends and wasn't committed to two different book club selections right now, I'd ghost all of you and hide under the covers with this new novel!

Savings and Trust: The Rise and Betrayal of the Freedman’s Bank by Dr. Justene Hill Edwards 😊

The Noble, Savage Death of Babs Dionne by Run Currie, Jr. His first thriller! I'm so excited! He writes like no one else I've ever read (though he's been compared to Kurt Vonnegut in the past, so I'm very interested to step into this world. 😍

I love Mondays, but this particular Monday morning has been quite divine-kissed.

- My PT appointment went very well. The doc and I both saw really good progress.
- One of my all-time favorite authors is releasing a new novel next year for the first time in YEARS.
- My Secret Santa left me gifts!

I'm allergic to and don't have any cats, but my sister adopted an adorable big puppy named Merla a couple of months ago, and I can't wait to meet her!

Returned seven books to the library and only borrowed two before walking out. A net positive! 👌🏽

Looking forward to finishing up /Bull Moon Rising/ (Ruby Dixon) tonight before diving into SwordCrossed (Freya Marske) for the upcoming week 😍

Dinner from tonight.

Yes, hot dogs with a side of bacon.

Ridiculous and AMAZING. 😍

Hey, you.

You're so cool.
You're doing your best.
Don't let the darkness get you down.
Just reach out and love will find you anywhere, if you let it.

It found me this morning and said, "You're doing amazing, sweetie. Now eat your breakfast and remember to hydrate."

I think the reason I've fallen in love with Cat Sebastian's work is because she writes characters that are so lonely, who find a ray of hope when they discover a friend, then a love for the first time, and it's so heartbreaking, beautiful, and delicate that I want to weep through the entire read.

I'm 65 pages into How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang and, goddamn, these two protagonists are brutal with each other.

I suspect it's because they both have intense imposter syndrome, each feel the other can see through their masking talents, and are projecting like crazy, but still. It hurts!

Treated myself to a small dinner at a local restaurant (sushi fries!) and a free bluegrass concert hosted by my library.

Getting to know the town little by little! 😊

It's Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and my library is hosting a book club night next week for Cathy Park Hong's memoir, Minor Feelings, and I picked up my copy today. Gotta get to reading! 🤓

'A Curse of Queens' by Amanda Bouchet and 'My Season of Scandal' by Julie Anne Long.

I don't read romantasy books, but a book list recommended it, so I'm giving Bouchet a try.

And the historical romance I grabbed off the shelf because gimme old-school risqué covers any and every day!

I got the offer for the dream job over the phone last week, but I just received the /official/ letter and documents in my inbox today, so I'm celebrating with a piece of flourless chocolate torte for breakfast. I'm buzzing with happiness! 💓💫🙆🏾‍♀️🥂🌠🎉

Now that I've inhaled We Could Be So Good into my soul (best book I've read so far in 2024), it's time to consume Bride by Ali Hazelwood. I'm not typically a fan of paranormal romance, but I'm diving in for Ali because I love her contemporary writing, so we shall see!

I'm a third of the way into The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, and I'm really enjoying it. I think the fake dating trope, in general, is silly because IRL, I wouldn't be around someone I didn't have SOME interest in, but the book has made me laugh aloud several times and it reads fast.

Walked through the adult nonfiction section to grab two books from the library catalog and then walked away with five.

Goddammit.

I'm currently reading KJ Charles' latest novel, "A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel.' It's my first of hers that I've dived into and, boy, is the first sex scene a steamy one. Bravo!!

Also, the men's banter is top-notch, and I enjoy it immensely. 💗

I was recommended this graphic novel because I adored Lore Olympus.

The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Hidden identity, lesbian love, cheese puns for days? I'm in!

Welp, forget everything I said about The Color of Law author talk. Looks like I lived in idiocy for about a month and a half and got the date wrong, the location wrong, confused one event with another, and will most likely not be able to get tickets for the actual talk.

Listen, you may be thinking, "Dallas, this is all on you," BUT there was a mobile lending library that showed up where I was! In a cute van! And the librarian who was hawking the wares was an A+ enabler!

Also-also, it's a Jane Austen plotted novel!

How was I NOT supposed to borrow this book???
