Fun fact: Pennsylvania’s power grid was made up of 39% coal in 2015, but I doubt it’s dropped by more than 10% since then. Another fun fact: coal is the worst-burning fossil fuel, even though all fossil fuels burn dirty.

I know this account focuses on the New York Propane and Gas Administration’s attempt to turn people against New York’s climate bill. That said, I’ll also discuss other East Coast states.

They also claim that it costs too much to switch to electric, yet they forget that New York is offering up to 50% (depending on the situation) of the cost to switch, and you save money in the long run because the equipment is more efficient.

The propane and gas administration has invested a lot of money into their propaganda campaign. I've seen the ad several times.

'Safe, reliable, carbon-free electricity'—that’s what’s stated on the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station homepage, and yes, that’s fair. Now, where the hypocrisy comes in is go a little south, we find the Talen Energy Montour Power Plant, a 1700 MW coal power plant. Talen Energy owns Susquehanna.

Fuel cells could theoretically replace generators. Kohler has made strides with compact fuel cell modules producing up to 1 MW. For comparison, the largest diesel generators produce up to 4 MW, so fuel cells could replace generators. powersystems.rehlko.com/hydrogen-fuel-cell-systems

New York has made significant efforts to help the environment. Most of our power grid is powered by hydro, nuclear, and wind (not in order). Granted, a lot still comes from gas, but compared to a place like Pennsylvania, where it’s mostly coal, we’ve made a lot of progress.

Guess who funds smarternyenergy if you guessed New York Propane and gas administration you would be right.

Projects like Empire Wind 1 will help strengthen New York's electric grid by 800 megawatts, or about 800,000 microwaves running at once.

A 1500-watt resistive heater costs $0.30 per hour if running constantly, while an oil heater costs 15 cents—twice as much. I mentioned resistive heating because heat pumps can be up to 400% efficient, potentially turning 1 kW into 4 kW of heating, while resistive can only be 100% efficient.

People at smarternyenergy.org claim New York’s climate policies are too fast, calling it a scheme to raise gas prices. They say the grid isn’t ready but ignore that heat pumps transfer more heat from the air than the electricity they use and that power companies have billions to upgrade the grid.
