It’s not that I think everything is about COVID, but COVID keeps getting ignored — even though it’s still a major health issue in an ongoing pandemic.

RSV is at a low level of activity. Summary Influenza remained at a moderate level of activity but is increasing. This level of activity and increasing trend are very unusual for this time of year. These patterns are being driven predominantly by influenza A. COVID-19 increased but remained at a low level of activity. RSV remained at a low level of activity. Interpretation: In the past week there was an increase of 5.3% in COVID-19 notifications, an increase of 14.6% in influenza notifications, and a decrease of 17.1% in RSV notifications. People who recovered from mild–moderate COVID-19 still show persistent lung and vascular inflammation. This ongoing inflammatory response suggests COVID can have systemic, long-term effects that may raise cardiovascular (CV) risk even after symptoms improve.

GENOMIC ANALYSIS REPORT SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Page: 1 of 5 Report date: 21 November 2025 Summary Queensland Health reports on SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Interest and Variants under Monitoring as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO), otherwise reported sub-lineages remain under their parent lineage. • XFG is the dominant lineage in clinical surveillance samples, with approximately 40% of samples tested over the past 2 weeks assigned this lineage. • KP.3.1.1 and NB.1.8.1 have approximately equal proportions at 25% each. • KP.3.1.1 prevalence continues to be driven primarily by sub-lineage PE.1.4. This lineage has not been designated as a VUM by the WHO. • NB.1.8.1 was detected across 4 Wastewater collection sites and has the highest relative lineage abundance at 2. • XFG and KP.3.1.1 were detected across the 4 Wastewater collections sites., with each having the highest relative abundance at 1 site. • Queensland Health has been monitoring for detection of BA.3.2. This has been raised as a lineage of interest internationally however is not yet designated as a VUM by the WHO. This lineage has been detected in the clinical surveillance (~2%, n=2 cases) and wastewater surveillance for the first time in this reporting period. Community samples are sourced from cases who test positive for SARS-CoV-2 via PCR and may not necessarily reflect the distribution of all cases in Queensland. The current surveillance strategy selects samples based on stratification of recent positive SARS-CoV-2 cases based on risk factors. There is a lag between the date a swab sample is taken from a patient and the date that the results of WGS are reported. Figure 2: Proportion of lineages in Wastewater samples over time. Note that there is irregularity in the sampling frequency between sewage treatment plant sites. Please note the methods and analysis has not yet been fully validated and results should be interpreted accordingly. Preliminary validation work has demonstrated that agreement between lineage abundances appear to decrease down the lineage hierarchy, and between lineages that are similar genomically. Note the quality of sequencing data generated from wastewater samples is reduced when compared to that generated from clinical samples due to the nature of the sample type.

Researchers in Norway & Sweden found no uptick in myositis after COVID vaccination. Cases were extremely rare—112 across 7 million person-years—contradicting earlier reports linking mRNA or adenoviral vaccines to the condition.

Researchers have found the virus’s spike protein can switch between solid and liquid-like states, making it harder for vaccine-generated antibodies to block the virus. They say this phase change may weaken vaccines and help the virus evolve into new variants.
