Simple, inclusive celebrations with a fussy eater

Social occasions can be hard with a fussy eater.

But you can easily create menus that appeal to all.

The beauty of these communal ideas is they support adults too, many who have dietary restrictions

Do parenting directors have 50/50 shares?

A participant in my PhD study explained he & his wife were 50/50 partners in parenting so if his daughter asked for something he’d say I can only make part of the decision

Preventing children from playing parents against each other is always a good policy

Simple Christmas biscuits

Fun, not only edible, but you can hang on the tree!

Add icing, or not.

Do Christmassy shapes or first letter of your child's name

Aside from time to chill the dough, they're super quick and simple to make.

No more hand-feeding

There are many issues that families face when it comes to feeding

A common one is children who don’t eat unless fed by their parent, some of these are as old as 11-years-old

It’s one of the ways I can sprinkle magic and give you supportive ways to change this dynamic

If you are a mum and feeling exhausted check this list out.

Even 'good partners' probably fail.

It's a stark reminder of mum's cognitive loads without being conscious of the unfair split.

Perhaps wait until after Christmas to share with your beloved though!

I am totally a control freak

But also had my boys in the kitchen from babies in a bouncy chair on the kitchen counter

When they were older, other's children came over as I was okay with everyone cracking eggs & dumping flour all over the floor

Now both my boys happily cook & enjoy it

Yours?

Orange cookies

They have an amazing zing from the orange but texturally are like a regular cookie.

For non-fruit eating children, I reckon they will appeal even though there is a whole orange baked in.

Or add some choc for choc orange.

Avoid fruit

There's a trend to withhold fruit from infants, reducing sugar intake

And research suggests the positive of a focus on meat & veg first

But for the first months NOT longer term

Now there are older children who eat no fruit

Not eating a whole food group may mean developing an issue

Is feeding worse in this crazy season?

You are often coping less well
So your child likely is too

They aren't giving you a hard time, they're having a hard time

Yes, some control has likely kicked in

But they are not refusing to eat to frustrate you
Just coping less well, expressed through food

Hob nobbing with world expert!

As if this time of year weren't crazy enough, I spent the day with a world renowned expert on the method I'd like to use for data analysis in my PhD.

Not sure how much it helped, and how much it scared the pants off me!

Interview on The Herald Now – did not go as expected

The producer said I was on was to give advice on picky eating

Great, my happy space

But no, not what happened!
Sigh, how much better the time could have been spent giving evidence-based advice

Would love your thoughts

Is your fussy eater iron deficient as they don’t eat meat?

Not eating meat is common for young children - lots of chewing!

They may also not eat meat as a conscious decision, even if quite young.

Find out great ways to boost iron even in a restricted diet: theconfidenteater.com/blog/picky-e...

Why no Black Friday sales?

Although I need my business to make money
- there are lots of bills even for small businesses

But I’m not in it to make pots of cash
My prices are crazy low

And that is deliberate to make them as affordable as possible

It also means there is zero fat for discounts 😊
