* "We propose XYZ package of good governance reforms, up to and including constitutional amendments, to prevent this from ever happening again"
January 16, 2026 at 12:00 AM
* "We will rebuild agencies that were illegally destroyed by Trump and Elon Musk's DOGE campaign" (bonus pts for naming universally popular ones like NPS)

* "We will rapidly unwind the Trump admin's 'government by shakedown' agreements with universities, law firms, foreign governments, etc"

I would much rather see

* "We will end politicized and brutal 'law enforcement' campaigns"

* "We will swiftly investigate and punish corruption, self-dealing, and lawlessness of the Trump administration"

* "We will work to rebuild productive relationships with Europe and other allies"

thank you.

I consider myself pretty "normie" and

* I think Dems are generally better on the economy

* I think pitching themselves as better on the economy has not been a winning campaign strategy for Dems over the past few decades and I don't see them doing anything dramatically different now

I think I agree with you, but I am not sure I am parsing out the "they"s and "this"es correctly - you might need to expand on this one

(2) are making a political calculation that Epstein scandal is the thing that is mostly likely to fracture his base. it's not "A is worse than B", it's a tactical "pick one thing and keep up the pressure on that"
August 11, 2025 at 8:04 PM
"distraction" is maybe not the right word but I think people (1) are sick of the way Trump consistently slips out of accountability by ensuring there's always something new and worse to take over the news cycle, and...

really putting the fasces back in fascism

(it's a joke, okay. yes I am aware that is a long standing part of American iconography and why.)
What the heck happened here

Yeah I think this is exactly it. He has an extremely simplistic understanding of wealth and status, a grudge stemming from always being excluded from New York high society, and no ability to see the connection between those two things

Or maybe the Secretary of Health sawing the head off a beached whale and letting its putrefying juices drip onto his children's faces? Or is that one so South Park-y as to be too obvious?

Yeah, I heard something about a 1500% discount on prescriptions, can we get one on the NYT too?

I'm leaning towards a blend of (1) and (2) with a healthy dose of input from advisors/enablers who are in camp (3)
August 1, 2025 at 2:52 AM
... and like yeah, acknowledging that realistically the chance of getting all of that through in a single presidential term (let alone Congressional term) in the current climate is basically nil, but being willing to say this is the direction and the scale of changes we need to be pushing for

... formalizing independent executive oversight (constitutional role for inspectors general? standing to sue for civil society watchdogs?), stronger due process rights in immigration law, [it's not as big a deal to me personally but I know many D voters want to see a walkback of Citizens United]...

thank you. and yeah I'm a Democratic voter who at this point could care less about surface level policy and my vote is going to anyone who says look, we need a package of constitutional amendments for proportional representation, walking back executive privilege and presidential immunity, ...
