Happy Superb Owl Sunday! 🦉🏈

Seeing this Moche masterpiece in person was a highlight of 2024. Been waiting all year for this day!!

Thrifting is magical because what do you mean I now have a double matted Audubon duck print for two purchases of $3.99 vs $399

Big fan of the sassy sheep and the exploding demon worm from this Cusco school painting. A lot going on here, but they’re clearly the stars

Every book lover knows the ONE time you don’t to pack a book for a trip is the one time you have time to read it!

Maybe it’s a good thing because I have a new book for my 3 hour flight later this week. Will report back what I learn about animal welfare

Recovering Heritage with THREAD! 🪡

El Museo Regional de Historia de Colima recently shared these pics from a new project that invites local embroiders to ‘rekindle’ Pre-Hispanic iconography in thread. Such a cool concept!!

I feel like they would have LOVED the concept of Christmas caroling🎶🥁

Hope my brother appreciates the amount of timelines I had to interrupt in order to include our Chihuahua in some of history’s greatest artworks for his Xmas present

Thinking today about the eyelashes on this sleeping Teotihuacan dog at the St. Louis Art Museum

Fabulous. Flourishing. Unbothered. An icon!

Meanwhile on the other place: a ‘cultural researcher’ is arguing that people never cared about pets (ex: who cares if you shoot a dog!) before boomers

A masterly crafted depiction of America's favorite Thanksgiving bird ft. a very curious little dog. The view from atop those feathers must be nice- where might this iconic duo be going? 🦃🐕

When the Salted Caramel Kahlúa cake is so good, you gotta bring out the entire squad 💯

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

This Chihuahua ‘book’ was all the rage for 10yo me! Shout out to the wonky history here for inspiring me to write a thesis- I’m still looking for those ‘ancient paintings’ of chihuahuas to pop up one day 🤔

I bought it at a Bob Evans of all places too!

This is an excellent recovery by Mexican officials because now this Macuilxóchitl can have a friend 🥰

I feel like this dog would be a pro at the game of Twister if not for his stubby little legs! Unlike Colima dogs, he has a simple face, but is just as lovable 🫶

Today’s very important task: photoshopping my plucky Chihuahua into Art History

It’s for a Christmas gift, but I really feel like he’s elevating the discipline in ways we could never anticipate!

Ooo I have a question @flintdibble.bsky.social!! 🙋

I recently went to the St. Louis Art Museum and saw these parades of birds on a Greek vase. Is there any relation to the Naqada? Or was bird really just the word back then?

Would love to know your thoughts!

Omg Uaxactun is the site I researched! I read through the Morley diaries at the APS and found that it was actually a muleteer named Alfonso who discovered Stela 9. Morley was obsessed with crediting himself as finding it. He also bribed another worker to stay and help lift it. Here's the discovery:

The object information for this dog is fun because it has pictures of real Xoloitzcuintle for reference!

The look of a dog who just realized his owner is home (with treats!). He may be missing part of his front toe, but that notch in his ear? Probably something intentional from the artist!

Some Provenance news to kick off the weekend!

220 Pre-Columbian pieces (including a smiling Colima Dog 😁) from around the world are heading back to Mexico! This is the first group returned under the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo

Hi hi everyone!! 👋

Heard that some great folks were making the leap into clear skies and wanted to join in!

Looking forward to spreading the Colima Dog agenda starting with this pup. Could y'all keep an eye on him for me while I get settled in? Thx!
