It should, your saves are stored in a different directory to the game install & unless they change the save structure, your save will be fine with the new version.

also honestly I'm really concerned about whats going on with shayy and I can't help but feel like it's something bad.

honestly I feel like they shouldn't have even came out with this statement UNTIL there was an actual response bc just like you said it creates confusion and causes ppl to investigate themselves or like invade others privacy to find out.
