It’s been an awesome (but hectic) summer for the CapituLab! From packing and moving to Clemson to travel for conferences/talks.
Also, our new lab space is coming together amazingly (thanks to the incredible @erikales.bsky.social)! Updates on that coming soon…

CapituLab capitula take #4 - lettuce flowers are (maybe surprisingly) among our absolute favorites! We are using lettuce in the lab as a genetic model system to study how flowers in the Asteraceae develop. The red ones here were some of the first transformed in lab by @reidselby.bsky.social!

CapituLab capitula take 3 - it’s safe to say that we are a little obsessed with Bidens! We grow several ornamental varieties and have now worked with 8 different species. Actually our most recent NSF award is focused on development/evolution in a Hawaiian Bidens adaptive radiation!

CapituLab capitula take #2 - These are Clappia suaedifolia and Jamesianthus alabamensis, both monotypic genera in the Tageteae (marigold) tribe, collected and grown by our very own @brannanrose.bsky.social!

To commemorate our move over to Bluesky, here are some throwbacks to a few of the earliest capitula grown in the CapituLab! Bidens, Helianthus and Tagetes started it all for us
