The New Abnormal brings my deep dive of The Strokes to an end. Finishing it off with the first album of theirs I ever heard after not listening to it in full for almost 4 years and it’s way better than I remember. I used to not be too keen on the second half but it’s grown on me as I’ve gotten older

Comedown Machine first listen is done. In terms of instrumental it’s a slight return to their pre-Angles work but it’s still very experimental and I think that’s the strongest aspect of the album. The lyrics are also a strong point. The only issue I have is the vocal production.

Angles is a very interesting one. I imagine that if I was a fan in 2006 and had to wait 5 years for a new album I would probably be super disappointed. I however, am not. It’s a very solid album with many good songs on it(even some of their best) but it’s disjointed to say the least.

First Impressions of Earth has left a great first impression on me. I think this is my favorite so far from The Strokes. It’s their most… groovy album for lack of a better word. A lot of the songs are like if early Radiohead and Muse had a baby with the first two Strokes albums and I love it.

Room On Fire feels like a sequel to Is This It with a tempo shift that changes so much but so little at the same time. The entire feel of the album is much cleaner and more melancholic but in a way that seems interconnected with their debut. I like it just as much if not slightly more.

X and Y was kinda hard to sit through to be honest. The first half is solid and Fix You is a great song but holy shit this drags after Speed of Sound. Nothing in the second half really interested me. Not a great look after the first two tbh
