Defunding HIV research and medication supplies undermines decades of efforts in controlling the disease spread!

It specifically discriminates against the LGTQIA+ community:(

In Scotland, the introduction of a national PrEP program led to a 19.7% reduction in new HIV diagnoses among MSM. In Kenya and Uganda, PrEP was associated with a 74% lower HIV incidence among initiators compared to matched controls.

In Cotonou, Benin, a study estimated that PrEP prevented 0.4% of infections over 20 years. In Montréal, Canada, PrEP averted an estimated 20% of cumulative HIV acquisitions among men who have sex with men from 2015 to 2021.

It also reinforced how language remains a significant barrier, not just in communication but in fostering true connection and equitable care.

I found this very timely perspective from Annals of IM incredibly thought-provoking—it made me reflect deeply on the biases, both personal and systemic, that shape our interactions in medicine.

It’s crucial to recognize that #DEI is not just a talking point; it plays a vital role in healthcare, ensuring that every patient receives the best possible care.
