We’re turning to contract law in an attempt to force our 7yo to agree to eat healthy dinners. She’s not signed yet - but maybe the heart doodles count?

Prof. Demmy. Verbeke explaining that KU Leuven Library has made a stand & spends zero budget on APCs or TAs. Instead, the library invests in nonprofit #openaccess publishing & infrastructure #OASPA2025

On my way to Leuven for the @oaspa.bsky.social conference, which starts tomorrow. Found this fun guy in a Brussels metro station.

Last week we had an @openlibhums.org journal editor who was elected as a Poet Laureate (Azad Sharma from The Hythe Review), this week it’s a double-page spread in @prospectmagazine.co.uk for Professor Lea Ypi @leaypi.bsky.social, editor of Political Philosophy! OLH editors are on FIRE right now 🔥🔥🔥

Just found out I’m a Professor (or Full Professor as it’s called in the US)! From October 1, I’ll be Professor of Contemporary Literature & Culture. Still slightly shocked, it’s gonna take a few more cocktails this weekend for the news to sink in 🤣

Greetings from Cornwall! (And yes, the sea really is that green at Porthcurno beach).

Mystery birthday gift received this morning - a poster of Sean Connery as Zardoz. Finally confirmed as coming from my ridiculous @openlibhums.bsky.social colleagues. Relieved it wasn’t my mother-in-law to be honest.

Here’s the “Salmon of Steel” statue in Sheffield. Had a brilliant afternoon at the University of Sheffield, speaking with the Editors & Publishers Network. It reminded me how journals are a labour of love. We must withdraw our uncompensated labour from supporting unscrupulous commercial publishers.

Putting the finishing touches on my keynote "Sonic Apocalypticism: Learning to Listen in the Necrocene" for forgottensf.wordpress.com. I'm venturing into WEIRD SOUND STUDIES for this one! (I'm hoping it'll be recorded). Full programme here, so many good papers: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Last night’s Lambrini Girls hometown gig in Brighton was absolutely epic. Haven’t moshed like that since I was a teenager. What a brilliant band & lovely crowd @lambrinigirls.bsky.social

Finally, a research day. Having a great time drafting a keynote on biodata sonification, which means listening to the futuristic synth noodlings of mushrooms arranged by Tarun Nayvar (pictured) & the muffled umbral ambience of ice shelves collapsing. Is SF sound studies a field yet?!

Beautiful wintry walk before dark up at Loch Fyne, Scotland.

Happy Christmas and I love you and Christmas. Brilliant seasonal message to scrape out of the bottom of a filthy school bag, along with scavenged playground toys & highly desirable lumps of blu-tac. Wishing you all a lovely festive break - don’t check your email! 🤣🎄🤣

Another stunning day in Charleston, SC. I cannot get over the trees here, they’re magical. After final meetings I managed to visit the International African American Museum which is incredible. Well worth the walk across town.
