Unbelievably, #DuvetKnowItsChristmas generates such good will on social media that over the years we've raised somewhere approaching a quarter of a million quid for homeless charities. If you can spare a bob or two, sling some to Centrepoint, and here's the link: www.gofundme.com/f/duvet-know...

Good article from @emaths1.bsky.social (via @teachertapp.bsky.social). I think the wisdom around slowing down can also extend to decluttering lessons and think that great teachers ensure they focus on what really makes an impact.
Emaths - Why Wise Teachers Slow Down
Don't get caught in the trap of rushing through a curriculum, slow down and allow time for thought.

I honestly respect the grind of teachers who get reports written in the Easter holidays, but something about it has always felt a bit...off. As though after two-thirds of a school year, we decide we know all we need to know about the children in our classes.

Described the first episode of this Black Mirror season as "sad but brilliant", which I feel like sums up the entire show.

Led a staff meeting today during which one of our staff kept leaving the room to find out if they'd been offered another job and a wasp flew in the window so yeah, not exactly the highest quality CPD you'll ever experience.

I agree with Sam about this (of course) but have always seen the taxation system as a way of supporting the neediest in society. I'm not expecting to get out what I put in.
A big reason it's hard to make the argument for higher taxes is an ever higher percentage of spending is going to small groups with high needs (social care, disability benefit, SEND, children's care, hospital longstayers...) rather than on visible infrastructure or general services.

'Bad classroom etiquette' is a pretty broad category but people who don't clear away the offcuts having used the guillotine are SO HIGH on my list.

Weird take, but my issue with Elon's email is that he overleaps every management structure in place by contacting all staff members directly. If you're genuinely concerned over the output (or existence!) of federal employees, surely your first port of call is their line managers.

Pres Trump: ‘I think Europe has given $100bn [to Ukraine] and we’ve given, let’s say, $300bn plus.’ The most reliable figures show the EU has given $138bn to Ukraine, while the US has given $114bn. In 2024 Europe and Canada provided nearly 60% of NATO’s security aid to Ukraine.

Teachers won't like this comment but I can definitely think of colleagues who found what they thought worked and didn't want to adapt and improve. Burning the forest just to plant different types of trees is pointless but everyone's lessons can get better.

A brilliant piece, one that I've referred to often since it was written.
I keep seeing comment about lessons being fun, so why not roll out my old article on the matter?
We need fun for its own sake, but no need to pretend that it's part of the learning

'Schools have forgotten about fun for fun's sake'
We make a mistake trying to inject fun into lessons - we should simply aim to make schools more fun in general
