I know dog breeds and training aplenty.
I've got training and tools tips galore.
You want hot takes?
I've got 20.
But who cares?
No big deal.
I'll rant more.
Kinda jealous that dogs get to yell at the neighbour dog for just existing because although it annoys everyone and the dog should be called inside... sometimes you just wanna let it out, you know

Also, dude, people just need to take their dogs for a walk and might not want to be forced into a social interaction.

This person might be hella sick but has to take their dog for a walk. Or maybe just had a relative die. Or maybe just doesn't want to talk.

You're making everyone uncomfortable.
Dogs should never meet on leashes.

Remember when your parents would make you hug every relative even though you didn't want to?

Imagine that but with strangers.

Don't feel bad for your dog not being able to greet another dog across the street.

It's called barrier/leash frustration, usually from oversocialization.

Just a reminder, dogs don't generalize. They don't know what "no" means. They're responding to your yelling or your bad vibes. Dial it back bro

Shelter/rescue dogs are like a box of chocolates.

You never know what you're gonna get.

1. Not everyone who has to rehome their dog does so because of a personal failure.

If you are unable to meet the needs of a dog, you are doing a disservice to yourself and to the dog to keep it.

People need to stop shaming people who need to rehome their dogs. It just encourages neglect.

You, as your off leash dog runs at me: "Don't worry, he's friendly!"

Me with mine:

What dog breeds do you love but would never own because you couldn't meet their needs, stay sane, or have too many health issues?

Mine (in no particular order):

1. Huskies
2. Malinois
3. Border Collies
4. Any bulldog ever
5. Boxers
6. Bernese Mountain Dogs
7. Leonbergers

FYI to Canadians:

Emotional Support Animals (ESA) are NOT considered service animals.

There are psychiatric service dogs, but not your untrained one wearing a vest you bought on Amazon.

You're the reason people with real service animals face further struggles & discrimination.

Also, chill tf out and don't judge reactive dogs.

Idc if the dog is old or young or if they're new to the family or whatever.

If the owner has control of the dog and it's not at large, mind your business, Samantha.

Dog isn't gonna get any better by staying in their yard.

Don't be embarrassed by your reactive dogs on walks.

You are putting in the work.

Recognize how to manage this reactivity and how to improve it or minimize it.

You can't always predict or avoid the trigger.

Just be safe and continue doing your best. I'm proud of you *forehead kiss.*

Not all dogs can be completely emotionally rehabilitated and you need to be prepared for that.

Sometimes management is the only thing you can do, and that's totally okay.

Sometimes euthanasia IS the best thing for a reactive dog (especially in shelters).

Training tools are not the enemy and almost any of them can be used ethically.

Its not ethical to use a tool with no training. It's not ethical to let your dog choke itself out on a flat collar.

Tools and training are mandatory.

Head harnesses etc are still tools.

Ethical breeding is not the same as backyard breeding. An ethical breeder:

1. Will take their dogs back, no matter the age.

2. Will provide lifelong support.

3. Will vet the applicants.

4. Will let you see the environment the puppies are being raised.

Most of the time, most doggie daycares will create behavioural issues. Your dog is fine at home, I promise.

Also, dog parks can cause the same issues.

You can find other outlets for their energy or use the parks when they're empty.

Socializing does not mean letting your dog meet every person or dog. That causes oversocialization, which can lead to barrier/leash frustration, reactivity, or other behavioural issues.

You should get advice about your dog's health from your veterinarian, not the breeder or the Internet or whoever.

You can always keep it in mind and ask the medical professional, but take it all with a grain of salt.

There are no truly hypoallergenic dogs, only less allergenic.

Owners of ethically bred Cane Corsi are an example of people that I laud for their honesty about the breed's drawbacks.

The breed is too popular right now. They can be very dangerous in the wrong household, especially with poor genetics, poor socialization, and inexperienced owners.
February 22, 2025 at 6:53 PM
There are certain dog breeds in which the owners are the problem, not the breed itself necessarily.

These breeds are ones in which the owners refuse to acknowledge the drawbacks, dangers, or health issues the dogs face.

A breed can be fantastic, but they all have pros and cons.

There is no such thing as a well bred or ethical pit bull in Ontario, Canada.

It is not that pit bulls are bad dogs, but even visitors can not bring them in.

(I'm using pit bull as an umbrella term as any pit bull-like dog breed is considered under the ban.)

*Most* first-time dog owners should not adopt from a shelter or rescue.
