This is Miller Steam Plant in West Jefferson, AL. The house where I grew up is circled. Two of us on that street had a rare cancer (Leiomyosarcoma) that some say affects 4 in one million.

*veteran 2nd alto player reading book 1 for the third time ever (due to our only seasoned veteran being at all state choir)
*9th grade “veteran” bari sax player
*pianist is a veteran of the band but is in his first year on keys
*set player is a tuba convert

I first need to communicate the issue with admin and the coaches. It will be interesting to see how this works out primarily with the principal and athletic director.

Not only will they play after school but they have in school required workouts (an actual athletic training class). This will leave them one elective. Do we allow them to choose between jazz band and concert band? Or do we require concert band in the instance that they only have one free elective?

There is usually an elective teacher that will receive students in that situation, at least at the high school. The elementary teachers not so much. Once you commit to be in band you have to stay the entire year. We then help them make the decision to bow out as they transition to high school.
