1/ At this time of year it's quite common to admit calcium deficient Collared Doves.
Shorter days mean they don't get enough vitamin D from the sun which prevents them from processing dietary calcium properly causing metabolic bone disease.

Some cases are too severe & require euthanasia. With others like the one pictured, we can give a dietary calcium supplement & help them build up strength before moving to one of our aviaries for further flight practice & then on for release.
