Since there’s an allusion to Percy Shelley’s poetry I’d assume it’s trying to nod to the origin story of the novel….but it feels like you could also read a romantic insinuation about Mary’s life into it

It’s become a meme (born out of reality) about the NYTs cherry-picked interviews with supposedly normal Americans as if Ohio diners are where median middle class reasonable common sense down to earth fiscally conservative socially liberal people eat (and they always affirm NYTs conservative stances)

girl in front of us is annoyed her friend was making a joke about using ai cus she got a text from a friend that was “obviously chat gpt” and called it a cult so if NJT is my Ohio Diner I think we might be ok (we are still waiting to get back into Secaucus a second time)

it does gesture towards the underlying conceit of competing masculinities but what little is there is defanged from the critique of the US. like you could kinds see the Bad Guy whose name i don't remember was maybe a stand in for manosphere shit but it doesn't actually do aaaaaaaaanything with him.

it's better than Literally-Not-Karate Kid but the action is back half of Cobra Kai choreography. And it's script relies on nostalgia and knowledge of what expectations its mixing up to appreciate. I feel too young for the actual audience and too old for the intended.

would pay for a good comparison that breaks down why so much more story happens in The Karate Kid than in Legends (both about the script/editing but also like, the conditions these movies are created under and to what end)
