This morning I had two very special visitors.
And they coincidentally came pretty much at the same time.

It was such a special and joyous thing. Bc the aunties whānau women v rarely see each other offline.

1/3 Today Arena Williams, the MP for Manurewa (Labour) came with her communications advisor Charlotte to my house to talk about the whānau women’s concerns (which they had fed back to me), and to ask my thoughts on everything that’s going on under this government.

Took Iggy to visit Annette today. In her v own house.
First time since she left the violence 8 yrs ago that’s she’s in her own place.
Emergency and transitional housing all this time.
Overjoyed for her.

This morning I went to meet with Eileen who’s just been given the job of running the Te whānau Rangimārie safehouse.
And Matala and Krissy who’ve worked for TWR for yrs.
I’m on the board, and I’ve been involved with TWR for around 8 years.

Linda hasn’t been well for a while so I haven’t seen her for a couple of months.
She is genuinely one of my favourite people in world.
The great great great granddaughter of Tawhiao, the first Māori king.
Used with her permission.

For those interested. For those who have wondered exactly what the intensive work I do, looks like. And if it is safe.

We seem to be in a place in the world right now w big bad things happening all at the same time. I offer a small win.
None of the women did well academically, too much trauma, a lot of them told they’re “dumb”.
Those once critics proved wrong by genetics.

Fonua. Yr 9 Class president.

A koha from one of the women.

It’s the framed poem that she wrote for the aunties community.

I dont talk a whole lot about Aunty Phil and that’s remiss of me.

Because most people are dispensable, professionally, but Phil is not.

Came down to storage unit with Donna and Bella.

Bella found a treasure, she found several treasures. She always does.

And Donna, who is not a wearer of dresses ever, found a beautiful dress to wear on Christmas Day

I met Kiri when she was running the Manurewa Womens refuge. Would have been about 7-8 years ago I think.
Her circs changed and now she’s a vital part of not only the aunties whānau but also the entire shebang.
She pops in all the time.
Also, she’s Iggy’s favourite person in the whole world.

Watch for my big post this evening on my day with Annette, her first time in a hair salon, ever, and why such things can be difficult when you have CPTSD…

Undies for Xmas? Yes please. We’re having a fire sale, five dollars a pair.

Completely New Zealand made, by Nisa. The print on them is by framed NZ painter Karl Maugham.

More success.
M went to the hair salon today to have her hair coloured. She was v anxious, and felt really out of place. But pushed on regardless.
It took 5 hrs so I went and picked up her boy from school and brought him back here. But it’s done, and now she’s even thinking about having a haircut…

Manaakitanga - reciprocation of kindness + care. Took Linda her meat this morning + whole heap of food I thought she wld like. Unpacked meat, filled freezer, and then she says “this is my koha to YOU”.
Reciprocation impt bc enables the retaining of dignity. For both parties.

Moeroa
is a really important part of not only the Aunties whanau , but she’s also our chairperson.

With 3 degrees to her name, she’s a lecturer in social work.

And also one of Iggy and my favourite human beings.

Lisa, one of the whānau women, has written this poem as her contribution to #16days of action against domestic violence. Pls follow her on Insta @lisastanleywrites and buy her a coffee…

This is Victoria and Jody from Citycare South Auckland.
They popped into my place today to drop off these lovely pamper packs they’ve made up for the whānau women.
Aren’t they beautiful humans.
The women and I have decided that the teen girls will get them.

Iggy never comes with me on visits anymore because he has a very busy social life with his dogwalker, and best human friend, Ange.

But she’s gone on school camp so he came today to hang out with Annette and I.

Annette was delighted with this arrangement.

This is Father Chris. For the last few years, once or twice a year he kills us beast + the women get meat they don’t have to buy. The particular favourite are the beef sausages. 2 wks ago 1 of the women had specifically requested some.
So he came up to Akl specially. He’s a good egg.
