At least you can use the childcare FSA for after school and summer camps. It helps a little.

Except they probably agree on like 95% of the issues.

She’s lived with he father’s past, very publicly, for her entire life. If she wants to run I think she’s perfectly capable of dealing with that.

Maybe she didn’t want to go to school in Hawaii. Maybe she made that decision before her parents died. We don’t know. But we do know she has a scholarship to UCSD and it’s once of the best marine biology schools in the country.

Excessive healthcare costs have real and lasting impacts on people’s lives. So happy for you that you clearly haven’t lived this yet.

Family doesn’t require DNA. I was in a theater full of kids and they all left happy and energized so I don’t think they got as caught up with where her bedroom was located as they did with her health insurance status. All they knew is she had a bigger but still very happy family.

In the first one Lilo was by herself slot because Nani was constantly working jobs that made her miserable. Lilo took herself to Dane alone, was home alone, swam in the ocean alone. Is any of this acceptable? If they were my daughters I wouldn’t want that for either of them.
May 26, 2025 at 7:43 PM
Oh cool, you got to review the custody agreement with your family law attorney? I missed that part of the movie. Was it a post credits scene or something?
May 26, 2025 at 7:39 PM
So it means they can’t step foot off the island? I’m assuming the neighbor is also a native Hawaiian, and Nani keeps the house so seems to be clearly planing to come home. Give her a break, she’s a child too! And she maintains the relationship.

I guess Disney didn’t think a kids movie that gets into the various welfare options would be fun to watch. Also if they made that movie people would be mad at her for being on welfare.
May 25, 2025 at 9:20 PM
Actually social workers like to bring a final resolution to a child within a year. An indefinite stage of uncertainty is what isn’t good for a child. And Nani clearly isn’t ready to parent which is finally apparent when she can’t pay Lilo’s hospital bill and loses custody.
May 25, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Didn’t give her up, she lost custody because she hadn’t gotten health insurance and couldn’t pay Lilo’s hospital bill. Maybe see the movie before making judgements so you can make objective arguments based on the facts of the movie.
May 25, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Maybe that Nani is a child too and not ready to parent. She couldn’t manage to get health insurance and couldn’t pay Lilo’s hospital bill. But family is more than DNA and having support from long time friends can make all the difference in these sister’s lives.
May 25, 2025 at 9:12 PM
You don’t think losing custody because Nani isn’t capable of being a parent was the next step even in the animated version? And lack of affordable healthcare is even more of an issue now then when the first movie came out.
May 25, 2025 at 9:10 PM
Are you serious, they’ve all been different? That’s why every single remake comes with its own new contreversy.
May 25, 2025 at 9:08 PM
It’s not the worst.
May 25, 2025 at 9:06 PM
See the movie and form your own opinion. It’s impossible to summarize an entire movie in a single post.
May 25, 2025 at 9:05 PM
They still very much see the struggle. And I think losing custody of a child because of lack of affordable healthcare is also pretty relatable.
May 25, 2025 at 9:03 PM
That’s really too bad that you aren’t taking her. I’d hope most kids would see that this is a much healthier ending. It’s balanced because Nani is still very much in Lilo’s life, but has the support to follow her own dreams too. And lilo is with a close neighbor who is better prepared to parent.
May 25, 2025 at 9:02 PM
Also maybe that lack of affordable healthcare is a huge force in people’s lives. Because despite her efforts, Nani lost custody because she never got health insurance and couldn’t pay Lilo’s hospital bill.
May 25, 2025 at 9:00 PM
Maybe that family is more than DNA. Lilo gets the friend she needs in stitch, an alien, and the parental figure she needs from a close neighbor who is capable of parenting. All while staying closely connected to her biological sister who visits frequently and will return home. It takes a village.
May 25, 2025 at 8:59 PM
Well school didn’t break up the family, Nani lost custody because she failed to get health insurance and then couldn’t pay Lilo’s hospital bill.
