Cool. Gavin Newsom is a full blown nazi now? That was quick.

So my question for @democrats.org @democraticparty.bsky.social is this: why is no one educating the public about what closing DOE would actually look like on the ground in rural America. Why is no one out there explaining the real world cost of the cuts? It's a price many voters wont want to pay.

And for the towns that can shoulder the burden of losing Title I funds, class sizes will explode. Think DOE closing won't affect your high achieving kid? Think again. How will your kid fare when the teacher to student ratio is 1:45.

The answer is: kids are going to die. That sounds alarmist, but it's just the truth. Children will die of neglect and abuse who didn't have to suffer that way.

Towns will be hollowed out. Custodians, bus drivers, food service workers, paras, and teachers will be financially devastated.

And what happens to the kiddos who don't have support at home? What happens to those kids who have such traumatic home lives that school is their reprieve from severe abuse? Or the only place where they have consistent food and heat? That's a much more common story than most people know.

More broadly, if IDEA and other laws are not enforced by DOE, kids with high needs will be sent home when schools aren't able to pay staff to provide services. In Maine, at least, there are VERY few alternative places for these kids to go. Parents will have to quit their jobs to take care of them.
March 9, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Take Maine, for instance. We get $300 million in Title I funding from DOE. W/out that money, there are schools in Maine that would just close. In Maine-like many rural states-schools are not only the heart of small communities, they're also often the largest single employer. This will kill towns.

Character limits 🤣 but yes, exactly. The progressives in this party are the only ones standing up to tyranny, and we are being shouted down by the leadership who keeps losing.

Know what would be great, @democrats.org ? How about you educate the country about what is happening to student loan borrowers right now. How about you educate families of kids with disabilities and behavioral challenges about what will happen if federal funds are cut off?
March 9, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Yeah. And @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social shamed members of his own party for demonstrating during the State of the Union?

Meanwhile, @sanders.senate.gov is out there speaking to crowds of thousands who are demanding actual leadership -- he's listening and taking action to meet the moment.

What's going to happen to my student loans? I am still in SAVE plan forbearance and a little worried about my loans being privatized or payments getting so high that go into default and lose everything. You know, just a regular Thursday in Trump's America.
