A sheet of puff pastry sits on top of a layer of yellow looking custard inside a 9" x 12" baking pan. A big slab of solidified yellow custard sits on a cutting board, with puff pastry underneath and above. The top pastry is covered in a white fondant. The slab of vanilla slice cut into rectangles, exposing the cut edges of the yellow custard interior. A single rectangular block of Vanilla Slice sits on a white plate. The custard and fondant are starting to look a little sweaty from sitting out of the fridge while being cut.

Went to see the Grey-headed Flying Fox colony in Yarra Bend Park in #melbourne today. Absolutely surreal the sheer number of bats and the absolute size of the lads!

Did a tour of Parliament House in Canberra yesterday as well - Very interesting to see in comparison to Canadian Parliament. While not "new new", this parliament was finished and put into use in 1988, so it's a lot more modern by comparison.

The view of the front of Parliament House from ground level. The massive stainless steel flagpole over the centre of the building is visible above. The Marble Foyer, which serves as the main entry hall into Parliament House. The (marble) floor has interesting black and white geometric patterns inlaid into it, and the (marble) columns are a mix of green, pink, and white marble. The House of Representatives. The seats are a green colour, and get lighter as you move up the room. The green is supposed to be representative of the colour of a Gum leaf, and they tend to get lighter as you get higher in a tree. The Senate Chamber. The seating is red, which is apparently the colour of Gum leaves in the fall. Like in the House of Representatives, the colours get lighter as you go up the room, as the leaves themselves do as you go further up a tree.

This morning I hiked up the Kokoda Trail, which leads from the back of the War Memorial in Canberra, Australia, to the top of Mount Ainslie, which overlooks the city.

Near the start of the Kokoda Trail. A path leads upwards with trees scattered along the sides. A little bit further up the Kokoda Trail. The path is now visibly cut into the side of a hill, being fairly steep on either side. Trees line the sides of the trail. Much further up the Kokoda Trail. The path has become a bit less steep, and trees are still lining the sides of the trail. The view from the top of the trail, the Mount Ainslie Lookout. The picture shows a view over Canberra. Near the bottom of the image, you can see the War Memorial, leading upwards to the ANZAC Parade (which is lined with memorial statues for the various wars Australia has been involved in). You can then see Lake Burley Griffin going left to right. On the far-side of the lake, you can see a white building, which is the Old Parliament House. Beyond that, carved into a hill, you can see the new Parliament House, topped with the giant stainless steel flagpole and flag.

A koala is hanging onto the trunk of a tree amongst a bushel of leaves strapped to it. A eucalyptus leaf is hanging out of his mouth, and his face looks like he's been having a rough day. A meerkat stands upright on a sandy surface. He stands watch, looking for the enemy that will never come. A capybara stands at the edge of the water. He peers at his reflection before taking a sip and ponders whether he should go for a swim (he did). A brush-tailed rock-wallaby is perched atop some rocks (who could have guessed). He looks over his shoulder, back towards the camera, as though he is a trained model.
