In 2019 I was talking about being racially attacked in Berlin and a friend said, “I can’t believe that happened to you“. I said, “you’re my friend, I always believe you when you tell me of suffering, why don’t you believe me?” He went quiet. Two days later he wrote, “because it shatters my utopia”.
Almost every pundit in Germany said that Germany’s conservatives would never work with the far-right AfD. And yet here we are. I remember when many of us warned about Farage getting a standing ovation in Berlin as the AfD’s honoured guest. And yet here we are. I just wish more people had listened.
