These are a bad combination. Hail showers, especially more severe ones with larger hailstones, can devastate apple crops in minutes. Luckily our harvest is finished now, so the hail shower that struck today could do no damage.

Reducing tillage increases biodiversity. The Base Ireland discussion group promotes reduced tillage to fatmers.

I had a good day today. Spoke at length about craft cider at Blas na hEireann in Dingle, won a bronze for our apple crisps in the snack category, and then a bronze (up against major competitors) in the spirits category, for The 80 apple brandy with The Tipperary Distillery.

Absolutely masses of grain being delivered to my local Tirlán in Clonag Derrygrath this lunchtime. Perfectly dry, so no drying costs, which is always a bonus on a dry year. Barley pictured on left, wheat bring tipped on right. Also oil seed rape and oats not pictured. @agriland.bsky.social

One of our two wildflower areas, this one only sown in early summer, after we removed a four acre orchard last winter. A few years like this and then back to apples is the plan.
