I felt the ad looked like they were cutting corners.

We shouldn’t be using AI for the sake of using AI.

We should be using AI to uplift creativity.

To think this was possible by only two students with limited resources.

Now imagine what’s possible by giant corporations with unlimited resources.

My takeaway:

It’s eye-opening to see how much of our data is publicly accessible.

The information you can retrieve just from a photo of someone’s face is staggering.

They were able to identify dozens of people (without even knowing them).

Important note: They made I-XRAY not for misuse but as a thought-provoking experiment.

It goes a step further from just pulling someone’s name.

It allows the user to find their:

• Phone number
• Home address
• Family members

5. Reverse face search for data extraction
6. LLMs find the person’s name
7. FastPeopleSearch lookup to identify personal details
8. Results fed back to an app on your phone

AnhPhu Nguyen and Caine Ardayfio connected Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses to a facial recognition system.

How it works:

1. User looks at a stranger
2. Glasses detect when someone is in the frame
3. Stream the video from the glasses to Instagram live
4. Computer program monitors the stream

My take:

The best companies aren't asking “How can we add AI?”

They're asking “Should we?”

Technology should simplify, not complicate.

AI should enhance, not obstruct.

Sometimes, a bar of soap is all you need.

Adding AI to legacy software is like putting a Ferrari engine in a broken bicycle.

The core product still needs fixing.

The hard truth:

• AI won't fix bad UX
• AI won't repair broken features
• AI won't solve fundamental issues
December 3, 2024 at 2:45 PM
Companies are rushing to add “AI” to everything because:

• Fear of missing out
• AI adds perceived value
• Marketing loves buzzwords
• Prices can be marked up 100%

But there's a deeper problem.

What they actually did:

Slapped a chatbot on a broken product.

It's like attaching a soap dispenser to a bar of soap.

Unnecessary. Complicated. Pointless.
