The highly decorated nature of the unit is diminished when you take away the fact it was a segregated unit full of people seen as the enemy and potential traitors.
It's not racist to point out the fact these people weren't white. But it's absolutely racist to act like their race was irrelevant.

If you take away the racial aspect, the 54th Massachusetts was just another Union regiment. The Tuskegee Airmen were just WWII pilots. The 442nd was just another unit in WWII.
