Well there's a difference between "I'm not into that thing" which is PERFECTLY VALID, and treating fiction as if it was reality and thus needing moral validation from everyone.
Avoid fiction you dislike, read fiction you like, that's it. That's the secret.

There are people who argue 'This media made me think _ was okay,' while at the same time someone in the same room watching the same thing never came to that same conclusion. How people are raised, what environments they grow up in and the educational access they have all has much-🧵

It's very clear that different people respond to different fiction. Different media resonates with different people, and people's reactions to media can be positive or negative. This is especially obvious when people report completely different experiences with the same media.🧵

Many of us know fiction doesn't affect reality on a 1:1 scale, but 'fiction affects reality' is also overused in a steamrolling fashion. It's often used to push unverified claims a person personally resonates with while also cherry-picking what they feel has an impact on others🧵

Positive LGBTQ+ rep in cartoons won't magically stop bigots from being bigots the same way it also won't suddenly "turn" kids gay or trans. You can have as much positive rep for women, BIPOC, & LGBTQIA+ people in media as you want, but that media alone won't magically make anti-woke bigots tolerant🧵

I wish this study was shown to everyone because today once again I was disappointed by some queer person who was first talking how cool Tsubaki as a queer representation is in Wind Breaker only to then turn around and say how they wish BL disappeared because it's "90% rape and pedophilia"... WTF.
