He needs to be moved 'sideways' to something like "Local Elections Tsar" - that way he's out of this job now and that job then.

Two ceremonial firings for the price of one member of staff.

That's clearly true *in principle*.

In practice, none of those countries are going to launch any serious military action, much less a nuclear attack, if the US opposes it.
February 3, 2026 at 3:13 PM
I'm not sure what you think we can rely on NATO to do.

The US can't be relied on to do anything and the other members (UK included, tbf) can't be relied on to go against the US.

NATO is nothing without US support and it doesn't have that.

You have a remarkably positive view of the US Congress and its attitude to international cooperation.
February 3, 2026 at 11:57 AM
"NATO isn't unreliable. This president of the US is."

The US being unreliable is what makes NATO unreliable. It's just not credible to think that the US will respond if Russia attacks Finland or that other members will if the US attacks Denmark. NATO has no purpose that it can actually fulfil.

The boiler exploded at 5am; not even Rockstar had their staff in then.

Not only did she say this, she said it on her X account as well.

There are a lot of things that make Labour deeply unappealing but their apparent absolute conviction that everyone else is just very, very stupid is definitely one of them.

That's a better idea than most of what comes out of number ten.

Subsidies and other regulation. That is the real difference between the UK and California - we don't rely on charitable goodwill from small farmers and large ones (e.g. Dyson) are controlled by the same laws.

Plus UK small farming culture isn't exactly full of lefty environmentalists anyway.
December 27, 2025 at 2:58 PM
If you assume that small farmers don't like money, sure.

But in reality?
December 27, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Right, but how is that a problem? What's the negative consequence of that happening?
December 27, 2025 at 2:11 PM
Given the source this is less likely to be a reference to actual water on actual Mars than it is the Doctor Who episode of that name.

So, Starmerism is a result of infection by an alien intelligence?

Probably not though, it'd be smarter.

Really? It mostly feels like they don't like answering them, and they don't do that at lobby briefings either.

The SI unit of temperature is the Kelvin.

There's a general lawlessness problem too though. The Oxford one was five minutes from TVP headquarters, was known about for months, and it doesn't seem to have occurred to anyone to just wait there and arrest whoever turned up. Or follow the trucks. Or block the access. Or do *anything* at all.
December 13, 2025 at 11:03 AM
The main show running circa 1am to 4am might dampen UK enthusiasm a bit.

And limit it to people maybe more inclined to look for coverage on specialist games sites than in a generalist paper?

Round of applause for the photographer there - that's a *great* shot to have got into position for. 👏
December 11, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Major seemed like a decent guy who didn't have the juice to stand up to the 'bastards'.

Starmer is in a hugely strong position with both the majority and control of the party; what's weak is his own mind and will - it's not that he can't do what he wants, it's that he doesn't want anything at all.
December 11, 2025 at 2:08 PM
It's got to be unexpected fires or something along those lines.
December 8, 2025 at 6:33 PM
For the same reason that if you were sending confidential pictures to a doctor physically you'd put them in an envelope, not on a postcard.

But they obviously have to look at them when they get there *to the other end*.

Who is the other end in e2ee if not whoever you're sending the stuff to?
December 4, 2025 at 8:37 AM
It's the difference between a letter in an envelope and a postcard - the postal service can't read the former, they can the latter.

Clearly, sending poop photos to a service (or a person) to analyse requires them to be able to see them.

It's still useful for them not to be visible on the way.
