The former leader of Reform UK Wales was sentenced at the Old Bailey today (21 November) on 8 counts of bribery by Russian agent Oleh Voloshyn.

The judge: "It erodes public confidence in democracy when politicians succumb to financial inducement. The public can no longer rely on the veracity of political debate which may be tainted by disinformation."

Sentencing has begun. Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb is now running through the charges against Gill.

Case adjourned until 12.30 for sentencing.

Gill’s defence has begun mitigation, arguing for a reduced sentence: a 25% reduction for his guilty plea, or slightly more given the “unique circumstances” and issues of parliamentary privilege.

The max sentence under the Bribery Act is 10 years imprisonment for each count.

Hours later Gill appears on Channel 112 saying “he was concerned to hear of the criminal prosecution against Mr Medvedchuk”.
