Commenting to help the algorithm! Love this idea but am not optimistic at the chances. I’ve applied to so many positions and put my materials in their “resume bank” to no avail. I have a PhD in public comm - they don’t give a shit. Fingers crossed for you!

In short, my take on what happened is: right wing media has a stranglehold on American life. I’m not sure where we go from here, but I think a good starting place is to let these folk commit voter assisted suicide and do as much as we can to protect the folks that they are coming for.

To have to sit here and try to listen in good faith to these voters complain about grocery prices while the guy they voted for prepares mass deportation forces is beneath each and every one of us.

To echo what Roxanne Gay said in her NY Times op-ed, I believe that right wing media is primarily to blame for why we have to endure “the wild lies [Trump] voters believe” and “act as if they are sharing the same reality as ours, as if they are making informed decisions about legitimate issues.”

Right wing media, I wrote, “provide[s] the means for their audiences to, in effect, cosplay a reality constructed with the sinews of ressentiment, priming viewers to further internalize the belief that America’s landscape is indeed one of chaos and carnage.”

Writing at the end of my recent essay, “Priming ‘American Carnage’: reality television and Donald J. Trump, I placed my analysis in the context of Kelly’s concept of “ressentiment.”

Y’all. The sincerity in this guy’s voice continues to HAUNT me. Despite being flabbergasted, I politely, yet firmly told him “no, that did not happen - it’s a made up story, just like the Haitian immigrants eating cats and dogs.” “But,” he emphatically interjected, “they are doing that too!”

One Trump voter approached me saying “you’re not like the democrats I see on tv - you are a funny, easy going, bald white guy like me!” He then told me that his biggest concern was the “illegals from Venezuela” that are “invading our country…they took over THREE buildings in Aurora.”

In reflecting upon my personal interactions with voters here in NC as a poll greeter and GOTV volunteer, I cannot shake the “writing was on the wall all along” feeling.
