If I knew what I was doing I might have been able to find a way to stop. As it is was I continued stumbling down the dark street. The black road surface was wet with the light but persistent rain and reflected the dirty orange streetlights like a sheet of glistening black plastic. A solid immovable surface that seemed to ripple with every gust of the bitingly cold wind. Why were the lights not just orange but that particular shade of orange that promised more illumination than they could deliver? An old law apparently, something to do with elements and electrons and quanta. A very old law and therefore both irrelevant in this city and impossible to revoke. Drunk, cold and wet is not a good state to be in when you know you are being tailed by someone who wants to reduce your dimensionality. Possibly all the way to zero. I had no patience for this. I had a piece of paper to burn and a song to sing and I needed all my degrees of freedom to do those things.
