Good luck with the writing! Love this subgenre so if you have any other suggestions, would love to hear them!

Even Tsurugi, who is supposed to be the leading man (Red) gets painfully sidelined for Hayate. It reminds me a lot of what happened with Akira in Gorenger and Ryu in Dynaman.

As for the changing men themselves, it's pretty clear who the favorite is (Hayate) and who the ugly duckling is (Sayaka), at least in terms of focus episodes. I've always been curious how they decide who will get the focus episodes.

Not a lot of depth, mind you, but the introduction of a wife or crushing loneliness does make them at least two dimensional, even if they're not exactly three dimensional.

Though it's definitely fallen into a more plodding, monster of the week-pace at the midpoint, it does continually touch on interesting concepts in its plots. Even the villains get a little spotlight episode here and there which gives them a bit more depth.

I'm rereading what I already wrote so I don't repeat myself too much.

Older shows always had this sense of overacting which kinda took me out of it. And I think a more modern audience will struggle to connect with it. Or maybe I'm the weird one.

I also like the characters a whole lot more. The three guys stand out moreso than the girls so far but I'm still not even ten episodes into this thing so I'll withhold judgment there still. They just come across like they're not just acting like friends but actually being friends.

The mech fights are still a little on the disappointing side. They're better than Bioman but that doesn't say a whole lot, really. They still tend to fall on the shorter side. Monster attacks, Changerobot counters, finishing move.

Another aspect I really like are the monster suits (and the villain designs in general). A lot of them are quite big and alien looking, but still with so much color. Some of them wouldn't look entirely out of place in a show from the 90s.

Could also be that the group itself feels a lot more cohesive but I'll give it a while to see if that's the case.

It's very difficult to put a finger on exactly why I'm already enjoying this a lot more than earlier Super Sentai series. Maybe it's just that the effects have been upgraded a bit? Lots more bluescreen.

Already in the third episode, this has a more modern feel to it, I'm even getting more Power Rangers vibes from it. But at least so far, therethere are no teenagers with attitude in sight.

Hot damn, those are some snazzy outfits. What an absolute turn from everything that came before it. Oh, and here's some people fucking melting. The eighties were just different, man. No concern about scarring children mentally.
