now, those same words are everywhere online and suddenly trendy — it feels like a form of linguistic gentrification, where the language is accepted only after it’s been stripped from its original context, but lemme log out ‘fore i start some shit.

words like ‘finna’ and ‘ain’t’ have been around for generations in Black communities, but when I was growing up, teachers (and the media) treated them like they weren’t real words or were ‘bad grammar.’

“‘Ain’t’ ain’t a word.”
“Finna isn’t a word. It’s ’i’m going to.’”

you should read more history books before coming at me.😘 it’s not that we’re “just fine with it.” it’s that there’s nothing these folks can do to Black people that hasn’t been done before.
