Google Maps satellite view of Kanazawa and Sakae wards in the Tokyo metro area. Sakae consists mostly of single-family homes and is visually cut in two by construction of a new highway. A large golf course sits at the south end of the developed area, dwarfing the neighborhoods. Green hills and a north-south highway separate Sakae from Kanazawa to the west, which is visually quite similar to Sakae though it does not bear the same scar of highway construction. The area is quite disconnected and while the nature conservancy that squeezes between the two wards is probably quite lovely, the land use isn't and the disconnect between the two wards probably makes any direct travel between the two areas nearly impossible without a car.

ok so here's a little bit of urbanist food for thought: streets that have the same name across highways. likely because the highway cut them in two.
