I was doing some digital cleaning and found this poem I wrote months ago. I'm not sure what else to do with it, so I thought I'd share it here.

And when I was finally able to give you specific and clear instructions, To help ease my suffering – You chose not to help. And when I pulled away to build myself back up, You bullied me back into that cave. And when I struggled, alone, through the dark And finally saw some light where we could start again – You crossed every boundary I set, And stepped further into violence. And from the fear, I learned to be brave. And from the chaos, I learned to be calm. And from my vulnerability, I learned the depth of my strength, And emerged triumphant. We all have reasons for our actions, And I am happy to forgive. I want so much for you to dig deep, And face fear, And know love to your core. I look forward to the day I see you shine again, As you did when I adored you fiercely; When I lifted your head to the height of your worth, And ran my fingers through your sacred hair in wonder. I look forward to you glowing and proud of the person you have grown into, And the struggle it took to get there, To become your own cheerleader, Your own lover, Your own light. And as much as I love your voice, As much as I love your touch, And as much as I love the idea of your face being the one I think of as home, I no longer love those things more than I love myself. So no, you don’t get to sleep by my side anymore. You don’t get to receive my smile and my overflowing love, And you don’t get to throw me off balance anymore. Because I now love myself with all the ferocity I once gave to you. I now marvel at the colour and shape of my own hair. I now correct my own posture, lovingly, to remind myself that I am worthy of every inch of my height. I have become my own cheerleader. My own lover. My own light. And I hope that you become yours.

Life has given me ample opportunities to explore, and I've taken many of them. Along my travels I have assumed the roles of poet, musician, actor, writer, researcher, community builder & trusted confidant.
