She was wearing a gold locket and I asked her to see it. She had a German soldier picture in it and she proceeded to tell me he had been killed on the Russian front... She said that when the Yanks first came here she felt quite a bit of resentment towards them...

As I told you before, this is the first time I have ever been to any social affair with any Germans so I took advantage of it to find out how they felt towards their defeat and the occupation by the Americans. I talked quite a bit with one girl who spoke fair English....

One of the guys is having a birthday party Friday night and he wants me to go...He has managed to get plenty of Cognac, Champagne, and beer for refreshments too, so it should be a nice party. That boy gets around!"

This evening after supper I went to the studio and got those pictures I had taken. I hope you like them. I thought they were a bit too serious but the work is really good. I'll send them tomorrow."

I had quite a bit of work to do today, with these new men coming into the Company... The latest rumors are to the effect that by Dec 10th we will be on the high seas. I certainly hope so but unless we get some fast ships it will hustle us to get home, discharged before Christmas...

"Won't it be wonderful Darling when we won't have to write anymore? I don't suppose I'll feel right and have to write you a note now and then out of habit. Would you mind?"

"As I understand it - I'll be discharged from a camp in Pennsylvania. I hope I get there in time to get my discharge before Christmas, if not the discharge can wait until after Christmas because I intend to be home on that day if I am anywhere in the States and it's possible to make it."

"I stayed here in the Company area all day today although it was Sunday. I had to be here to issue weapons to all the new men that came in yesterday."
