I've said it before, I'll say it again: Reading Moore's memoir in 2020 is what finally led me to try talk therapy. The way she talked about processing her own emotions (and often masking them) just CLICKED in my brain.

Yeah, that does not square with me either - I have maybe…3 friends our age who are watching them but it’s kind of out of curiosity rather than love for the format or the storytelling.

Not watching, not subscribed, but hearing A LOT of chatter about them from industry folks + writer friends who are finding work writing them while everything else is still so slow.

I have shared that anecdote so many times now, it is SUCH a necessary reality check on what "making it" in this business actually means. And what a better business we would have if more people in positions of power thought like Vince Gilligan when it comes to personal responsibility + its echo!

...Buddy, my problems are SO MUCH HARDER now compared to when I was sleeping on the floor in a studio in Echo Park. People + their families depend on me, my choices, my work - if I fuck up, I hurt them, not just me. My problems after "making it" never went away, they only got bigger + more complex.

I saw Gilligan speak at a WGA event during my first year in LA + he said one of the wisest things I've ever heard from a person who has "made it":
