I usually do something like, a job they all need the money for or a group/org that is fairly neutral asking for help. Then the players can continue to play with that toy or find something else in the space to really bring them together. Normally crafting it based on everyone's backstory helps though

It is what makes the game feel alive, loved, and lived in and keeps me running
