Further research should be done into use of hydroquinine alongside other antibiotics and against other species of bacteria, as this study indicates a promising path for combating rise in MDR infections through new mechanisms and could extend usefulness of existing antibiotics.

Multi-effectiveness of hydroquinine is significant as it’s harder for bacteria to build up resistance against multiple mechanisms simultaneously. Usual antibiotics are more target-specific so resistance is more likely. It’s also important that hydroquinine is effective against already MDR strains.

The research used computer simulations to investigate potential ways hydroquinine can interact with structures of proteins vital for PSAE’s survival and activity. It has shown hydroquinine to be potentially effective against multiple targets. It has also shown to affect multiple metabolic pathways.

The study found that hydroquinine is an effective antimicrobial against all tested strains. It also showed to greatly improve effectiveness of other antimicrobial (previously ineffective) when used in combination, meaning that less drug is needed to provide effective therapy.

Research used 6 strains from patients from various sources (blood/pus/sputum) and 1 control strain. They were all tested against 10 antimicrobials typically used against PSAE, against hydroquinine alone, and combination of ceftazidime and hydroquinine. Test looked for inhibition of bacterial growth.

The following study is trying to show how hydroquinine affects the growth of several strains of PSAE and attempts to understand the genetic and chemical mechanisms behind the effect shown in the experiment. www.mdpi.com/2473560

As antibiotics become less effective, there’s increasing need for other methods of fighting infections. Hydroquinine is a plant-derived compound showing potential in antimicrobial treatment. It has already been used in medicine for other purposes, so it’s known to be relatively safe for human use.

PSAE is known to display MDR patterns. In combination with its abundancy in the environment, it’s a cause for concern in hospitals dealing with immunosuppressed patients. This causes higher risk of UTIs (catheters) or respiratory infections (ventilators) in addition to their existing conditions.

P.aeruginosa (PSAE) is a common pathogen in the environment. It usually doesn’t cause problems to healthy people, but immunocompromised patients are at risk as their body can’t defend itself effectively. PSAE can inhabit medical equipment making it a risk for hospital acquired infections.

In recent years, the world has witnessed a rise in multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria. This means they can withstand a wide range of antibiotic treatments at standard dose with little to no effect on their life cycle. This means some common infections are becoming increasingly difficult to treat.
