the like simulation-y aspects of monster hunter were always the coolest thing, the like tracking and pursuit of the monster, learning the maps. world felt like they were trying to bring that back into focus but with iceborn, rise and now wilds i guess that wasnt actually the case

i think the one thing that kept the lower level experience more social than like wow was the level sync stuff. But over the expansions the classes and the game math have been changed so much that none of it is any challenge anymore

also think an important thing for fostering social interaction is forgoing instancing and sharding. so that the game world is grounded and people dont end up separated from eachother in their own pocket dimensions. if youre grinding gnolls in a burrow others doing the same should be there too

I guess like uhh player based convenience id call it. Where while the world may be a pain to traverse, or deaths hard to recover from you can specifically ask someone else for help to make it a lot more simpler through travel buffs and teleports and whatever else

idk i think the reason that the big late 90s mmos were able to nail it was precisely because they were consciously designed. its just that they were working off of 20 years of (mostly) non commercial MUD design history
