My opinion on AI-assisted development:
If my manager/company wants me to use it, I'll use it.

But on a personal level, I don't want to give up my creativity and problem solving skills to impress people with my "100x development speed", allegedly gained by vibe coding.

I opened my inbox today and saw this. My heart skipped a beat, thinking that I got accepted for a job opening that I'm waiting responses.

Nope, it's just an automated newsletter confirmation. 😐

Anyone out there willing to sell me on NixOS as a daily driver? I've been using Arch for the last 2 months and I'm looking for something slightly more stable.

It sounds nice, but hearing all about having to declaratively install node/python/golang versions and ditch virtualenv sounds odd.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

I wrote up a post about how we hugely improved the write performance for Bluesky's timelines/following feed.

If you want to learn more about how we did it, check it out.

Some nuggets in there about embracing imperfection in some parts of a system to scale better.

Nowadays, I may only play video games casually, but I love watching speedruns. This is nuts!
PSA to all speedrunners - PLEASE download and upload all highlights to YouTube. Huge amounts of speedrunning history will be lost if we don't take action.

Even if you're under 100 hours, play it safe and download. It's 100 hours for now, but who knows in the future.
Twitch is implementing a 100-hour storage limit for Highlights and Uploads starting April 19, 2025.

Today was the first day I installed Arch Linux, ditching Windows 11 completely. Off to have dinner, then time to finally dive into Neovim configurations to turn it into my daily text editor for all my development needs.

History was made, and it was beautiful!
I've been trying for this for over 4 and a half years. This fight required 21 frame perfect punches (1/60th of a second), 10 frame perfect dodges, as well as luck that has somewhere around a 1/7,000 - 1/10,000 chance of occurring.

It took me over 75,000 attempts.
