In east asia serialised literature isn't so rare. I have a feeling it might be an anglosphere phenomenon that it's not much of a thing anymore

Yes, the chrome method sometimes lags but my python script reads the timings from the downloaded barrage file and copies those (on maoerfm it's always exactly 4 seconds...)
I also have 2 sub tracks on it so my mandarin-learning partner can switch to raw CN subs and look up words @calad.bsky.social

I bought audio dramas for sone other danme + Google Chrome translation tool real time translate the (fan written in barrage) subs. Later wrote some code to download the audio and subs, translate it all in advance and make a playable file on my computer. It's far from perfect but enjoyable enough.
